National Volunteer Week: Something For Everyone

National Volunteer Week is here! This year’s theme is Something for Everyone, celebrating the diverse passions and talents that everyone brings to the act of volunteering. Whether it’s helping out at a local animal shelter, participating in a beach cleanup, or tutoring students after school, there’s something for everyone when it comes to making a difference in the community.

Volunteering is not a one-size-fits-all activity. It encompasses a wide range of opportunities that cater to various interests and skill sets. Some people are passionate about environmental conservation and find fulfillment in planting trees or organising recycling programs. Others may have a knack for working with children and thrive in mentoring or coaching roles. There are also those who excel in organising events and fundraisers, using their skills to support charitable causes.

The beauty of National Volunteer Week is that it shines a spotlight on the countless ways individuals can contribute to the betterment of communities. It’s a time to recognise and appreciate the invaluable efforts of volunteers from all walks of life, each bringing their unique strengths and perspectives to the table. Volunteering Gold Coast celebrated their Volunteer Service Awards on Monday, kick-starting the week and honouring the remarkable milestones achieved by VGC volunteers.

This week is a reminder that everyone has something valuable to offer, and there’s a volunteer opportunity out there for everyone.

In celebration of this, we’ve curated a list of diverse volunteer opportunities that you can get involved in! Read more & apply here.

  • Gold Coast Disability and Youth – Gaming Volunteer: Are you passionate about Dungeons and Dragons? We seek positive, supportive volunteers to guide and navigate psychosocially challenged participants as they engage in games and social interactions. Smooth flowing gaming sessions in welcoming and inclusive surroundings that encourage positive group interactions will be the daily focus.
  • Thriving Multicultural Communities – Learning2Drive Road Rules Tutor: A volunteer is required to support participants of our Learning2Drive program to learn the Queensland Road Rules and assist them to pass their Road Rules test and gain a Qld Learner Licence. The tutor will make a meaningful difference to disadvantaged participants who require a Queensland Driver Licence.
  • Cycling Without Age – Trishaw Pilot: Would you like to help others get excited about their day? Learn to ride a trishaw and commence your journey delivering joy and smiles. Cycling Without Age commenced in Denmark in 2012 through one single act of kindness and has brought joy to over 3 million people in 52 countries. It continues to change lives, one trishaw ride at a time.
  • Mudgeeraba Show Society – Show Crew: We seek volunteers to join our inclusive Show Crew. We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic individuals to fill diverse roles from gate attendants to exhibit and livestock stewards, information attendants and general hands.  No prior experience needed – just bring your passion for community engagement, history, heritage and agriculture.
  • Bluecare Lower South Gold Coast – Pet Companion: Become a volunteer and bring your good natured and well trained dog to visit our BlueCare residential facilities across the Lower Gold Coast. The role is to help improve the wellbeing of residents through positive interaction with visiting volunteers and their dog.

So, take a moment to reflect on your own interests and talents. Consider how you can use them to benefit others and contribute to the causes you care about. Whether it’s through hands-on activities or simply spreading awareness, there’s a role for you in the world of volunteering. Let’s celebrate the diversity of skills and passions that make volunteering such a powerful force for change. Together, we can create a better world by harnessing the unique contributions of each and every volunteer.

Happy National Volunteer Week!
