Volunteer Profile: Anne

Whenever you discover someone has been volunteering for over 10 years naturally you want to know about them and why they volunteer. Anne is that person. With over eleven years at Volunteering Gold Coast, Anne has that sweet and lovely personality without trying, she continues to volunteer because of how much she enjoys it and to make a positive impact in people’s lives.

 

Let’s get to know Anne and why she first started volunteering:

How long have you been at Volunteering Gold Coast?

For over eleven years now.

 

Why did you start Volunteering with VGC?

I retired and I wanted to do something and volunteering seemed like a great option for something to do and give back.

 

What roles do you do at VGC?

I’ve been doing admin and started off with volunteer bookings and then for the last three years I’ve been doing transport bookings.

 

Your favourite part about volunteering?

At the moment I love talking to the elderly, just getting to have a bit of a chat with them when you can. Sometimes that’s the only time they speak to someone during the day.

 

What would you tell others to get them interested in volunteering?

Honestly just do it. You get so much back as well, it’s very rewarding. Even in the office, it’s friendly and good fun as well. It’s a great place to work and a great place to volunteer.

 

Advice to live by?

Not really, but I just try to stay happy as much as I can.

 

Now a little bit about you. What do you do in your free time? Hobbies?

I used to travel a lot before Covid but I’m hoping to get back into it. I also spend a lot of time with my grandchildren.

 

Favourite country to visit?

The best and the one I would love to get back to is Antarctica. It was cold but so fascinating, we went on a cruise but we also did landings. It was just so special.

 

Anywhere you would like to go to that you haven’t been yet? 

I’m going to Cape York in July, so I’m really looking forward to that one.

 

Favourite food and drink?

My favourite drink is definitely wine, and my favourite food is probably Mexican.
