Student Volunteer Profile: David

This week we’re celebrating the National Student Volunteer Week as we acknowledge our talented and amazing student volunteers at Volunteering Gold Coast. Let’s meet David!

Name:

David von Paumgartten

What are your motivations for volunteering/interning with Volunteering Gold Coast?

Personally, I see that Volunteering Gold Coast is a foundation for human efforts that truly shows care for its community. I feel motivated due to this fact because this organization helps me effectively provide assistance to those who could truly use it.

Is there a cause that is close to your heart?

I truly admire the aged care and disability services for the strong efforts to provide an inclusive means of living to those who might struggle to have it without help.

Are there particular skills you want to contribute or learn?

I would like to continue to learn about the means of community engagement and outreach so that I can continue to assist others as I grow in life.

Your personal goals: how important is it for you to gain satisfaction and happiness from helping others, as well as having fun and enjoying yourself in the process?

I feel that the greatest enjoyment of the process comes from meeting people and helping others enjoy themselves. It’s so much fun getting to know other people and it’s even more fun watching people live the kind of lives that they so very much deserve.

Your life goals and what you would like to achieve when graduating: consider the way that volunteering could help you achieve these goals.

When I graduate, I would like to continue my studies to become an engineer. I think volunteering exposes me to real problems and situations that people face. In turn, I’m able to learn many ways of how to assist people and develop solutions to many different issues.

How important it is to challenge yourself – get out of your comfort zone, become more independent, and be confronted by something new

I believe that it is essential to challenge one’s self. The essence of development is founded upon the basis of change and challenge. Without challenging yourself, it’ll be very difficult to grow as a person which is why I cherish a good challenge every day.
